PB: Frog Cakes
You know all about this one!
Graphic Novel, Early Reader:
Forsynthia & Friends: Knight in Training
- Note: Forsynthia's world is one that I am pretty excited about. I have this gut instinct about this character/concept.
- Info: 3000 word, character driven, early reader graphic novel for 5-8 year olds. STEM book with themes of inclusion, relationships, and empathy.
- Comparisons: COOKIE AND BROCCOLI by Bob McMahon, meets BALONEY AND FRIENDS by Greg Pizzoli, meets CHICK AND BRAIN by Cece Bell.
- Description: Forsynthia the dragon wants more than anything to be a knight. Her first knightly quest is to take on her first week of first grade at a new school. Forsynthia must be brave, get on the bus, find her class, and make new friends. When Forsynthia learns that the school nurse is a 19 foot tall, eyeball-collecting zombie, she faces her biggest knightly test of courage yet. Will Forsynthia ever make it back from Eye Check Day? Or will this visit to the nurse’s office be her last?
- Feedback: Had the pleasure of working with Aneeka Kalia, Editorial Assistant at Viking Children's Books, on this book. She liked it a lot and gave me some great feedback to develop it into what it is now.
- Status: Illustrated Dummy and manuscript complete-- and ready for your feedback : )
PB: Hilda the Trailblazer: One small step for giraffes, and one giant leap for giraffe-kind.
- Note: Hilda has gone through a lot of change since you've last seen her! I ended up re-writing her story in two different directions. This is the one I wanted to show you first to get your thoughts on!
- Quick Description: When Hilda wants to invent a way for giraffes to do the impossible: swim, it takes ingenuity, problem solving, and collaboration to make the impossible possible.
- Status: First draft of manuscript written, concept illustrations are being worked out.
PB: The Sweetest Dream:
- Quick Description: When a young girl can't sleep, she decides that she is going to use her creative powers to solve the problems that are keeping her awake.
- Note: This book is different than my other books. It is more serious in nature and an issue driven book. I can't tell if that is a good or a bad thing, or if It is a project that just needs to be put aside.
- Status: Manuscript is written, concept illustrations are done. My illustrations were critiqued by Christy Ewers. The manuscript was critiqued by Alyssa Janette: she said that she felt there should be a different action tied to the ending. I have ideas on different resolves, but I'd love to get your take on it before I do anything further.
